Hot and humid summer (just like ones we have in Cyprus) is a difficult time for oily skin.

When it is hot, sebaceous glands start producing more sebum, leading to excessive shine, clogged pores and acne breakouts.

How can we help our skin on these days?

Making changes to your diet is a simple step, which helps to improve your skin condition and lose some unwanted kilos as well! So try to eat less carbohydrates (rice, pasta, bread and sweets), which make the skin oilier. Summer is a great time to enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables that are in season!

Drinking enough water will also help you to stay hydrated and keep your skin healthy.

Before the hot season starts, check your skincare supplies and invest in products, specially formulated for oily skins.

Most of them will contain the following ingredients, which help reduce oiliness and prevent breakouts:

Salicylic Acid – targets dead skin cells without penetrating or stripping the natural moisture of the lower skin layers. It helps to fight breakouts and keep pores clear of acne-causing debris.

Niacinamide – or vitamin B3, which, according to studies, can improve excess sebum production, the appearance of pores and reduce inflammation.

Kaolin – a naturally occurring clay mineral that has excellent oil absorbing properties. It refines the skin’s texture and helps to clear up breakouts by drawing out impurities.

Use skincare with these ingredients, don’t forget to wear your sunscreen (find one suitable for combination/oily skin type) and have a great summer!
